Effective Speaking is a program designed to prepare cadets for the Effective Speaking Competition run by the Air Cadet League of Canada, as well as other inter-squadron competitions. Competitions take place at the squadron level, with the winners rising to regionals. From there, cadets may earn opportunities to participate at the provincial and national level, earning pins for their uniform.
In the past, 283 Squadron has performed well at Effective Speaking competitions, and cadets have been offered the chance to speak on behalf of the Squadron at the annual City of Vaughan Remembrance Day Ceremonies.
Effective Speaking runs every Friday at St. Jean de Brébeuf from 19:00-21:00, where cadets practise their public speaking ability through the presentation of prepared and impromptu speeches. Cadets learn to think on their feet and speak about a variety of fun topics.
All cadets, regardless of experience, are welcome and encouraged to attend. It is an amazing opportunity to meet new friends, gain confidence, develop your speaking skills, and have fun while doing it!
