Medical Examination Requirements for GPTC/PPTC
Transport Canada Medical Certificate. Cadets intending to apply for GPTC or PPTC who do not already possess a Transport Canada Category 3 or 1 medical certificate must complete a medical examination with a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME) as soon as possible. Please see the link at the bottom of the page to search for a CAME in your area. Note, these medical exams vary in cost between $150 and $500 depending entirely on the CAME. Additionally, Transport Canada charges a $55 processing fee (subject to change). These exam and processing fees are not covered by the cadet program.
Delays and processing. Delays of up to six months from the time a medical exam is completed to when a medical certificate is issued are possible. Any findings during the exam can further delay the process to the point where course applications are cancelled. To avoid issues at the medical submission deadline, schedule your exam now. Late medical certificates will not be accepted, and there will be no means of expediting the process at Transport Canada Civil Aviation Medicine. Medical certificates are valid for 5 years for a Glider Pilot or Private Pilot Licence and can be used for future GPTC and PPTC applications.
Submission Deadline. If a cadet has not submitted a copy of their medical certificate to their RCSU by 16 May 2026, their application will be cancelled. No other letter or doctor’s note will be accepted in lieu of a copy of the Medical Certificate. Extensions will not be granted.
